Emergency Care Department

If you require an ambulance, call 119 from any telephone. For urgent, non-life-threatening care, please see our Emergency Medical Care Center page.

Department Overview

The Emergency Care department of our hospital was established back in April 2009 by instructors from Nippon Medical School’s Critical Care Department.  The department is trained to quickly respond to everything from light wounds to life-threatening conditions in patients of all ages and genders.  The department and the Emergency Medical Care Center it operates are the central focus for the critical phase of care for patients at our hospital.
Our Emergency Medical Care Center is a “third tier” emergency care facility capable of treating the most seriously ill patients.  They provide the first phase of treatment for patients suffering from cardiopulmonary arrest (CPA), various forms of shock, multiple traumatic injuries, multiple organ failure (MODS), serious communicable diseases, serious cognitive disorders, strokes, respiratory failure, acute heart failure and heart attacks, major blood vessel conditions, acute abdominal conditions, digestive system bleeding, major burns, acute poisoning, heatstroke, decreased body temperature and acute psychiatric conditions.  Following any necessary life-saving techniques, they work to stabilize the patient and then, depending on their condition, coordinate efforts with specialists in other departments to chart the patient’s course of care.
The responsibility of the Emergency Medical Care Center does not end with the care described above, but also extends to training medical staff to handle mass treatments during natural disasters, providing “medical control” training to EMTs/ambulance crew in life-saving procedures that can be employed while on the way to the hospital as well as other efforts that contribute to the safety of the citizens in the hospital’s region.
One example of such efforts is the “Doctor Car” system to bring medical staff to the patient if their transport to the hospital is delayed for some reason.  In addition, the Department continuously is helping educate medical students, interns, exchange students, other paramedical staff, and EMTs in all aspects of emergency medicine.
We will strive to remain flexible and stay abreast of changes in both medicine and the society we serve in order to further our contribution by providing the highest level of emergency medical care possible.
